Frisco, TX- FC Dallas hosted top of the Western Conference side, the Sporting Kansas City. This game was unique because it featured, for the first time since May 23rd, FCD’s Matt Hedges in the starting lineup.

Head coach Luchi has probably found and stuck with his starting lineup as they have been getting positive results while on the road and at home. Saturday night featured Matt Hedges in place of Bressan, who was serving his yellow card suspension.

“It’s fun to be back,” said Matt Hedges. “It felt like you would never come back, but happy to be back. It’s great.”

The team ended an unbeaten streak at home for over a year. He spoke about having the desire to become better.

“Proud of the team to keep the streak alive for a year,” said Luchi Gonzalez. “It’s a strange feeling, I thought we created good chances during the game.”

Within the game’s opening minutes, Schön almost found the back of the net but was denied the opportunity by the Kansas goalkeeper.

At the twelfth minute of the game, after a series of touches, Alan Pulido snuck in between Nkosi Tafari and Matt Hedges to take a low shot past Jimmy Maurer to open up the score for the visitors.

FCD seemed to concentrate their attacking efforts more on the left side of the field throughout the match, with Schön and Hollingshead making the plays. Ricardo Pepi had a few touches on the ball. Still, he was not very impactful with his efforts, and Paxton Pomkyal, who, towards the end of the half, shifted his position towards the middle to open up a gap for Twumasi.

In the 50th minute of the match, Schön sneaked his way through the Kansas defenders to create a play that ended in a collision with him and other players. Pepi was able to pick up the loose ball and took a shot on goal that ended hitting the post.

After a fantastic play, Pomykal dribbled the ball past a couple of defenders and got ties with Schön, who took a shot on goal, hit the crossbar, and rebounded off the ground in an unclear way to tell if the ball was entirely going in. Very close call for VAR and the referee to determine if it was a goal or not.

Dàniel Salloi extended the visitor’s lead when he found the ball in the middle of the box and took a strong shot that was unstoppable for Maurer. Sporting Kansas City played better than FC Dallas all around. They were able to control the game’s tempo and were more organized in all parts of the field.

Luchi Gonzalez spoke about his team’s performance:

“The game is about chances,” said Gonzalez. “They took the chances, and we didn’t. I’m disappointed, I’m sorry for the fans, we’re looking to do better.”

“We didn’t take our chances,” said Paxton Pomykal. “If we keep playing like we did, I feel like we could win games.”

Pomykal went on to mention that the team must be willing to get the points back at home.

“I feel like we take our chances against any team in the league,” said Pomykal. “I’m confident that we can get the points.”

FC Dallas hosts the Seattle Sounders Wednesday, August 18, 2021. With Saturday’s loss, Luchi and his men will hope to get a better result than what they did against Kansas.

Following Saturday’s loss, FCD now sits at the tenth spot of the Western Conference with just 21 points. Kansas regains its top spot in the Western, accumulating 37 points.

Following their match against Seattle, the team will travel for back-to-back Texas rival matches featuring the Houston Dynamo and facing Austin FC.
